A little ditty about inflation

Shall I compare thee to history?
When inflation started with four or five
And economists declared victory,
Forgetting we need to spend to stay alive 

So why’s the Fed’s goal, two percent to keep,
To stabilize prices, where they don’t soar,
And maximize jobs, not too high or deep
A balance struck so the economy soars

Where we are now moves closer to their mark,
Unlike the past, the Fed’s goal takes aim
But even now, the costs we face are stark,
For inflation slows, but prices stay the same

Now inflation’s at two-point-seven,
But lower still—they’d call it macro heaven.
